Ingeo™ fiber is the first man-made fiber derived 100% from annually renewably resources such as corn. This corn is put through a simple process to make plant sugars. The sugars are fermented in a process similar to making yogurt. Then the fermentation products are transformed into a high-performance polymer called polylactide, which is branded NatureWorks™. Ingeo™ fiber is extruded from this polymer. Ingeo™ fiber provides a bridge between natural fibers, such as wool, cotton, silk and conventional synthetics.
Ingeo™ fiber combines the qualities of natural and synthetic fibers in a new way. Strength and resilience are balanced with comfort, softness and drape in textiles. Amazingly, and in addition, Ingeo™ fiber is naturally flame retardant and has good moisture management characteristics. Ingeo™ fiber stain resistance properties make it ideally suited for fabrics from fashion to home furnishings.
Ingeo™ fiber can have the look and feel of natural fibers with a comparable performance to traditional synthetics. Its natural versatility offers the opportunity to design new yarns, fabrics and garments for a contemporary wardrobe in both pure qualities and innovative blends. A new style of fine woven lightweights plays with reflections, textures and transparency. Knitwear begins with refined and functional weights for home wear, separates and intimates.
